The Grassmarket Mission is a charity dedicated to getting alongside people who are poor, marginalised, excluded, homeless, struggling with addiction or mental illness. Our ethos is based around trying to blur the lines created in society around margenalised groups and mix up service users of our project and members of the local community.
In Partnership with Greyfriars Kirk we help deliver a series of social and educational initiatives aimed at addressing isues of isolaton and need in Edinburgh's City Centre. You can find more specific information on this project by looking at the GCP blog: http://gcpnew.wordpress.com
Offering people an opportunity to genuinely integrate as part of a team, as a volunteer, through cooking classes, woodwork, hill walking, art and more. It is our experience that many of our service users struggle to find purpose and meaning in their lives. Often chaotic, their lives lack a framework, a structure which gives it meaning and shape. These opportunities for people to get involved and gain skills offer a real long term opportunity to build community and make a transition that will offer them a new start.
Our work has formed the roots of the Grassmarket Community Project where we work in partnership with other agencies and organisations to deliver our educational and social programs out of our newly refurbished centre on Candlemaker Row (From July 2010)
